This ohitsu (rice container) is made from Shigaraki ware, one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan, produced in Shigaraki-cho, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture. Shigaraki ware is highly fire-resistant due to its coarse clay. It is characterized by its rustic warmth, like human skin, and rich texture, which are not seen in products from other regions. You can store leftover rice in the refrigerator or freezer, then warm it directly in the microwave to revive fluffy rice. The unglazed underside of the lid utilizes the absorbency of Shigaraki ware. This container holds approximately one go of rice, allowing for storage, heating, and serving without transferring to a separate bowl, making it a convenient item for those living alone or busy mothers who want to reduce dishwashing. You can also use the lid as a small plate, so why not serve some side dishes for your rice?

About Shigaraki Ware Shigaraki ware is pottery made in and around Shigaraki-cho, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture. A characteristic of Shigaraki ware is its high fire resistance, achieved by using coarse clay. Its texture, which brings out the flavor and warmth of the clay, is beloved, and today it is widely used in homes and interiors for flower vases, tableware, figurines, and even tiles. It continues to produce familiar household items, making it one of Japan's representative pottery regions.
Precautions Ceramic is highly absorbent, so please be careful as prolonged soaking can cause mold and cracking.

■About individual differences
Products are shaped, colored, and fired by hand. Therefore, no two ceramic pieces are exactly alike. Color variations, unevenness, protrusions, black spots... these are all characteristics of handmade pottery and contribute to the vessel's unique texture. Please note that the following are characteristics of ceramic products and are not defects.
・Color
Since glaze is applied by hand, there may be slight color variations and unevenness. Also, conditions during firing can cause various changes, and even with the same colored glaze, there may be variations in the finished color and crackle, and the color may differ slightly from the photo.
・Holes and protrusions
Small holes and protrusions may be observed on glazed vessels. These are called pinholes, a phenomenon where air trapped in the body or organic matter (such as dust) when the glaze is applied remains as small holes after firing. This is a phenomenon unique to ceramics.
・Black spots
Black spots may be seen on the surface of the vessel. This is iron powder, where iron content naturally present in the clay oxidizes when fired in the kiln, appearing as black spots on the vessel's surface.
